Conflict Summary  Click for help

The intrastate conflict between the government of the US and al-Qaida begun on 11 September 2001, as al-Qaida operatives attack US military and civilian targets in New York City and Washington D.C. The incompatibility concerns the governance of the United States of America, but except for the attacks on 11 September no fighting has taken place on US soil. Instead, fighting has been located in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. In some of these locations the bulk of fighting has been carried out by the US government's allies.

In 2009 the bulk of activity was located to the tribal districts of Pakistan and in the mountainous areas of Afghanistan that border Pakistan. No moves towards resolving the conflict through negotiations have been undertaken.
