Film screening: "In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America"

On November 12, 2018, the Embassy of Ireland together with UPaD, Pax et Bellum, the Alumni Association and the Department presented the screening of the documentary “In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America” at the University Building in Uppsala.

H.E. Ambassador Dympna Hayes and Erik Melander, Head of the Department, welcomed the audience before the documentary was shown. The screening was followed by a discussion with the film’s director Maurice Fitzpatrick, journalist Thella Johnson, author Ola Larsmo, and DPCR researcher Annekatrin Deglow. Journalist Stephen Farran-Lee moderated the panel talk. The panelists talked about the legacy of the Good Friday Agreement and engaged in a lively discussion. They covered John Hume’s impact in today’s Northern Ireland as well as the potential consequences for peace following Britain’s exit from the European Union, among other things.
